Seesaw Learning Platform

We hope that you are all safe and well and keeping yourselves active at home. With the development of the situation around COVID-19 we have looked for ways to still enable learning remotely. We have decided to use a learning platform called 'Seesaw'. Please click on this link Seesaw for information about this!

Important information about reading with your children during school closures and access to Accelerated Reader:

We know that many parents are working hard to create a schooling routine at home during the current closures and you are already doing a fantastic job!

Below we have put together some information to make sure our children still have access to high quality reading books and are reading regularly with their parents. It is essential that children read aloud and are read to every day. Reading 20 minutes or more every day can have tremendous impact for your child. So set up a routine, make reading fun and make sure your child reads every day!

Accelerated Reader

For children in Years 3 - 6, we have removed the restrictions on quizzing on AR books at home. This means that children can log on as normal from home using the school AR login and password at https://ukhosted25.renlearn.co.uk/2240855/default.aspx. Class teachers will continue to monitor children’s progress towards their AR reading targets but appreciate children may need to read books which they are unable to quiz on.

Children should continue to read books they have at home and can check if they can quiz on these using the website - AR book finder which will tell them the level and quiz number for the books. Children have a level range they should continue to adhere to.

Free Online Resources

Additionally, we have access to online resources which ALL children may access:

myON – this is an online platform which we currently have free access to. Children can pick from thousands of books on the site and read these online. Most of the books have an AR quiz and children can access this by searching the title in Accelerated Reader as they normally do with a hard copy book. Please note that some books will not have a quiz at all as there is not enough content to create a quiz on.

Audible – has made many of their children’s books available for free online so children can listen to these on tablets, computers and phones.

OxfordOwl – another website which is offering free e-books for children but you do need to register.

Your child’s class teacher will be in touch regularly with guided reading and comprehension tasks which they would usually complete in class but this is on top of the regular 20 minutes children would be expected to be doing daily. If you need any support setting up reading routines at home, please get in touch with the school or visit myOn family resources.

Children work hard during the school day to discover new things, learn and practice important life skills and develop their knowledge of the world. We would really like to encourage children to continue their learning and exploration outside of school so we have sent home a selection of tasks for children to choose from that link to their school topic work in the hope that they will engage better with this. Your child will be asked to complete a chosen task from their year group list by key dates when they will bring their work into school to share.

In addition to this, children will be expected to read every day, practice given spellings and tables and may be asked to do additional maths exercises or handwriting tasks.

In order to support children with home learning please try to find a quiet space at home and feel free to support with tasks as necessary.

Any written work may be done straight into the home learning books and should be of a good quality i.e. best handwriting, dated and no biros please. Children should be proud of their work so please help them look after these books.

Children will receive feedback from staff on their work and this might be part of a presentation, through discussion or written comment.

A lunchtime homework club will be held in school once a week to offer additional adult support and access to information technology if needed.
